Sally Cummings Shisler
For two years ('07 to'09) I worked hard each week to maintain a daily ritual of plein air painting. Devoting as much time as a busy mom's schedule would allow helped me gain greater insight into what life would be as a professional painter. The realism training I got as a medical illustrator carried over into my first painting endeavors. From realism to impressionism & even semi-abstract expressionism, the change over time has been remarkable! It's a challenge, but I still try to paint outside from life as much as I can. Successful painting is lively & fresh. For me, plein air and knives hold this promise. I teach workshops several times a year, helping artists feel the freedom gained by using knives as a mode of expression. You can see my workshop schedule on my blog home page,"All in a Painting Day's Work".
